UFO man feared alien invasion

Last updated: 12/18/2008 1:19:00 PM

THE man who called the police about a UFO above St Edmundsbury Cathedral today told how he feared an alien invasion.

Police were alerted to the unexplained phenomenon on November 29 at about 10.43pm.

The man who reported the sighting, who asked not to be named, told how there were actually two UFOs in the sky that night - one a spinning silver disc, the other an object akin to a glowing ball of fire.

Describing what he saw, the man said: “The UFO seemed to be quite high up in the sky. I just saw this silver thing which kept spinning around. It went away and came back again. Several seconds later this large orange ball of fire was beneath it. I looked up at the sky and I just said to myself 'what the heck is that?'.

“I've not been scared like that for a very long time. I've never seen something like that. I rushed to get back to my flat and I wondered what would happen if they landed. It was thinking about (the science fiction film) War of the Worlds.

“At the time it was very quiet and there was hardly anybody about. I also heard about two or three alarms going off as well. All in all it lasted about 12 or 15 minutes.”

  • I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to be named. UFO invasion indeed! Suggest he stop reading sci-fi novels for a while.

    Larry Tooter

  • I also have seen spinning obects at 22:45 on a saturday night. Still no photos of this 15 minute visit?

    MARTYN GREGORY

  • Saw something similar after a fireworks display over Rattlesden. A big orange sphere in the sky hovering in the distance. And although it was Nov 5th this was no firework.

    Maurice Smith

  • Found a picture of the UFO on the internet taken just today! put it on my flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wisbey/3117770385/

  • Why do we never seem to catch these aliens on camera and cctv they seem to catch ever thing else... Shame as love to have a alien up front for ipswich town as such quick movers lol

    Lee Mundy

  • They're not all locked-up yet then?

    Tony Gomm

  • What kind of investigative journalism do you call this? A few rambling quotes from a single unnamed source and 'Hey Presto' we have an Evening Star scoop.A scoop of what , I wonder...

    mike moore, Ipswich

  • Reminds me of when I had my first pint. We've all been there!

    Steve Clarke

  • I can believe this man. Several friends (not nutzoids) saw white balls (diameter 2 foot) here in pennsylvania, usa about 10 years ago. There were about 10 people who saw it, and they were 8 miles away from each other. ????????

    rich lee

  • Well that clinches it, Rich Lee. After waiting patiently for ten years in Pennsylvania, those pesky aliens, complete with their intergalactic white balls, must now be intent on an imminent invasion of Bury St Edmunds .That's a lot of balls, Rich, white or otherwise... A touchy subject, I'm sure it's left you scratching your head at the wonder of it all.

    mike moore, Ipswich

  • Why do aliens only choose to manifest themselves to hillbillies? If I were a little green man and had travelled 75 kerzillion light years to planet earth I wouldn't hover around over Pennsylvania or Bury St Edmunds for ten minutes and then go home again. Nope, it would be Buckingham Palace, the Whitehouse, or the Vatican for me. Maybe the alien told his missus he was just popping out for a quick half of Abbot Ale?

  • It's a ruse to get people to stock up on grub in case of invasion! Someone must have a load of tins near their expiary date! Happy new year Ippo!!

    Sol Rosenberg

  • I wish I hadn't mocked this story now. I actually saw it over Christmas. Outside in the garden and flying overhead was a large silver sphere thing, made a buzzing sound. Sure enough an orange trail was coming from the back. Rushed in to get my camera, by the time I emerged it had gone.

    Larry Tooter

  • Oh dear. Now even my old friend Mr Tooter is seeing little green men! On the basis that they'll only seek out the most intelligent and advanced life forms, at least I can sleep easy knowing they'll leave me alone.

    PC Plod

  • Read it again PC Plod - at no stage did I mention little green men. Your assumptions do not suggest you to be as intelligent as you suggest. Your assumption that I am somehow your friend is also grossly inaccurate and I ask you to withdraw it immediately.

    Larry Tooter

  • I saw the same light as Larry Tooter. It was towards the back of my house...I pointed it out to my dad who had just come off his shift with the force and his response was,' its not aliens, your mum has just been on the sprouts again'.

    Ralph Wiggum

  • Evenin' all. I'd certainly like to see the evidence for the so-called alien invasion. The only flying saucer I've ever seen is when Mrs Plod chucked one at me when I asked for a second cuppa. Maybe next time my mate Larry Tooter sees Martians hovering over Ipswich he could pop into the nearest police box and give me a call?

    PC Plod

  • Really, Many people claim they have seen UFO's. But do they have any proof to back them up ? No. People really need to stop this. Ailen invasion Pfftt make me laugh

    Bob Bob

  • PC Plod my old friend I don't want to get done for wasting police time. Presumably for me to contact you a crime will have to be committed. You are evidently more familiar with the law than I, can you clarify what crime the UFO is likely to have committed flying over hillbilly land (as you put it)?

    Larry Tooter

  • These alien invaders may have broken any number of laws. I remember my old Sarge telling me about a man who was abducted by some extra-terrestrial teddy bears. He had a close encounter of the furred kind.
