AROUND 100 people have attacked Great Yarmouth's police station today in a “shameful” night of violence.
The crowd hurled bottles of beer and wine at the station, narrowly avoiding injuring police officers with the makeshift-weapons.
Two police vehicles were damaged during the fracas.
The disorder started just after midnight today when three people were arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle that had sound equipment on board, and shortly after that an unlicensed music event was reported at warehouse in the town's Harfrey industrial estate.
Chief superintendent Bob Scully said three people arrested had not been involved in the disorder outside the police station but the force was linking the incidents.
He said the violence was “shameful” and added: “We acted swiftly to control the situation and to restore order. What occurred was entirely unacceptable.
“Officers dealing with the incident risked serious injury. This behaviour and activity simply won't be tolerated.”
He warned people to stay away from the Harfrey industrial estate while the matter was dealt with.
