ASBO threat for troublesome teen

Last updated: 11/4/2009 1:47:00 PM

IPSWICH: A teenage tearaway could be banned from the Northgate area for a minimum of two years after persistently causing trouble for residents and shopkeepers.

Ipswich Borough Council is currently attempting to bring in an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) against the 16-year-old following various incidents in the area.

Although it is believed the full hearing for his case may go before magistrates next year, measures have been taken to try to ensure he does not continue to be a pest in the meantime.

South East Suffolk magistrates have already granted an interim anti-social behaviour order pending the outcome of his case.

The teenager, who still lives in the town, is facing accusations that between late last year and April of this year he was involved in numerous incidents.

Among the locations where he is said to have committed offences are Forfar Close, Aberdeen Way, Woodbridge Road, the Rushmere Takeaway and Cauldwell Hall Road.

He is also alleged to have caused problems at the Co-op in Colchester Road, Northgate Sports Centre, Spar in Freehold Road, Northgate High School and shops in Selkirk Road.

The boy is scheduled to appear before Ipswich magistrates for the next hearing of his case on November 23.

However, it is believed the full hearing into the case may still not take place until February 2010.

Although ASBOs are for a minimum of two years, they are reviewed after 12 months for people aged 17 and under.

  • ASBOs are a good way for kids to compete with mates to get most

    Voice Of Reason, Ipswich

  • Sounds to me like someone needs to have a word with his parents to get them to sort their kid out.

    Sarky Sage

  • bring back capital punishment, these kids need more of a deterrent

    paul hendry

  • The parents must shoulder some of the responsibility for the actions of their off spring. The decent people of Ipswich should really take a stand against these moronic thugs - a sort of "Guerrilla" reclaim the streets (with no law breaking please !), just make them feel really uncomfortable - like they make some of us feel .......

    Annon Annon

  • Why is du picckin on him? He ain't done nuffink. Ee's a good boy. It wen't him it was dem asylem seekers!

    Paul King

  • sarky i notice you only comment about inflicting pain on youngsters..........

    Voice Of Reason, Ipswich

  • Stop the softly softly aproach on punishment and we might stand a chance of reducing crimes. Slapped wrists just isnt enough!!

    A nnoying

  • lets have stocks in the streets again, i would love to give him a good egging.

    Steve Jones, Ipswich

  • paul king mate you avin a wind up? dis one is a terrorizor of da streetz and an ASBO wont do NE-fin for him but give him sum fink to boast about, wot he needz is a stretch inside

    Voice Of Reason, Ipswich

  • every area has these kind of people, young kids getting into trouble, and if they stop him going to this area with the ASBO surely he will just do it in another location.

    What i Say

  • I still think you should name and shame the people who do things like this! There should not be an age limit. If he can do all this trouble, then put his picture in the paper!

    R Angel

  • I would egg you on to give him a good egging, Steve!

  • To "Voice of Reason" - your powers of producing fiction are only surpassed by Enid Blyton. Parents ("both") should be made legally responsible in the courts for their childrens actions. If a dog misbehaves, the owner is responsible. Children and dogs are very similar...and so is their successful "puppy" training - they both need to be taught their limitations in order to be happy and obedient.

    Sarky Sage

  • Children and dogs are very similar.......obviously not a parent your self or you have an unhealthy view on dogs and an appaling view on children, try putting a 14 year old on a lead, they dont like it

    Voice Of Reason, Ipswich

  • give him two weeks holiday and some spending money that should help

    Charley Farley

  • ASBOs what a waste of time, shame borstal was ever done away with. That would have been the deterent, all these yobs need!!!

    ged scott

  • "Voice of Reason= obviously not a parent your self...." I have a dog, hamster, tortoise, numerous fish, and 3 children (2 now adult / sensible enough to have left Ipswich and its hayseed / backwater mentality far behind in pursuing their careers) and all of whom, by the reliable accounts of other people, are exceptionally well trained / behaved. Now, before you "lead" me any further down your whimsical path of light-hearted self-contradiction......."jog on"

    Sarky Sage

  • If I'd found out that my children had been causing trouble, they'd get a clip round the ear (not a beating!)despite all the soft touches out there saying it isn't the way to treat them. Some of the parents out there pop one babyee out after another and just let them turn feral . The parenting does need to be looked at. I was brought up to respect others and I hope I've passed on that respect to my children. There is no respect for the police today due to the fact that they are restricted as to what they can do. Bring back the 'Bobby on the beat'!
