A husband is understood to be under arrest on suspicion of murder today after his wife was allegedly stabbed to death at their home.
The victim has been named locally as 53-year-old Sharon Green, who lived in Main Road, Marlesford, near Wickham Market.
Soon after the discovery of Mrs Green's body early yesterday, a white R-registered van crashed into a tree on the A12 around five miles away. The crash occurred near the Bredfield turn-off, between Ufford and Melton.
A 59-year-old man sustained spinal injuries as a result of the accident. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken to Ipswich Hospital under police escort.
Yesterday, police said detectives from Suffolk's major investigation team were expected to be questioning him today.
It is understood the person arrested is Mrs Green's husband Paul.
An area around the site of the van crash was cordoned off by police yesterday morning and a layby around 150 yards away on the other side of the road was also sealed off.
Suffolk police were called to the Greens' thatched house, which was formerly the Old Bell pub, at 6.50am yesterday.
They were alerted by the ambulance service which was called to the property at 6.44am.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said a family member of the deceased found the body.
It is believed the Greens lived at the property with at least one of their sons, who are said to be in their 20s.
Mr and Mrs Green were the landlord and landlady of the Old Bell before it shut down around five or six years ago, according to villagers.
Albert Riches, their next-door neighbour, believed the closure of the pub came as a blow to the Greens.
Mr Riches said: “They took it a bit to heart. They tried every conceivable way to keep the place running. They tried very hard.”
Despite living in Marlesford for some time the Greens did not appear to have a large social circle in the village.
Mr Riches said: “They very much kept themselves to themselves. They are nice pleasant people and we got on with them well.”
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have heard or seen anything between midnight and 7am yesterday.
