OUT of the utter horror of Haiti, comes a picture of incredible joy - arguably one of the best pictures of all time.

Meet Kiki, Boy Wonder, alive and well after eight days under the rubble of earthquake-blitzed Port au Prince.

Can you see the joy in the eight-year-old's eyes … he never gave up hope that he would be freed.

The rescue - and a picture that will bring tears to the eyes - defied the myth that people only survive being trapped for a couple of days or so.

Kiki was saved after an incredible operation, in the Nazan district of the Haitan capital, mounted by US earthquake experts.

The heroes and heroines were members of urban rescue squads from New York and Virginia, some of whom had been involved in the 9/11 horrors of New York in 2001.

Tell me of your best-ever pictures from world events and I will collate a special feature.

  • In a word. Yes.

    Keith Last, Ipswich

  • If it brings YEARS to my eyes rather than tears I would rather not look.

    D work

  • Maybe not the best picture in the world but I believe this will become an iconic photo, like that of the firefighters at 9/11 and the americans soldiers with the flag in WWII. Eitherway, it's the joy in the boy's eyes that will not be forgotton.

    G Rumpy, IPSWICH

  • It gives hope..so for that reason yes it is the best picture in the worlddespite what cynics may say

  • I think this picture is breathtaking and gives hope to other people that are trapped!!! I think you people should be ashamed of yourselves for being so hateful. As your sitting there with fresh water for your shower and a big mac!!!!!

    Kerri Vernon

  • The question is rhetorical

    Tyrone Green

  • Beautiful - That little boy is a joy to see. Thanks!

    Julia Stewart

  • This absolutly breaks my heart. To think that we moan about daily occurances in life i.e. the bus being late, and these poor children are starving and trapped.

    chenice clarke, Ipswich

  • This truly visually represents "I'm Free" and puts in perspective the situation he was in for the last 8 days.

    Jamie Lynn Natole

    Joonas Kolkka

  • James don't be such a jerk this is a awsome picture in it's own way. A child fighting for his life to stay alive under a ton pill of rocks and then finally gettting free. This picture should make every one see the joy in life and live life to the fullest and appreiate their lives every single day.

    Janessa F

  • he just gave me hope and a smile to my bleak morning thanks their is life after tradegy

    valerie daley

  • I cannot believe how many cynical posts there are regarding this picture....Where are people's hearts these days?

    Paul Assirati, Ipswich

  • It is the instant you first see it, then it is not when you realize yet another cynical journalist has turned it into a farce with over-blown prose and a rhetorical question.
