Pair fined after hen party turns sour

IPSWICH: A mother's hen night celebrations ended in the cells after she and her daughter assaulted police officers.

Terrianne Riches, 35, butted and punched a special constable following the celebratory night out in Ipswich on November 14.

Riches' daughter Sheree Wooby also punched a special constable following an argument in Upper Brook Street.

The pair are today out of pocket after Riches, of Sheldrake Drive and Wooby, of Bramford Lane, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a police constable. Riches also admitted a charge of threatening behaviour.

Wayne Ablett, prosecuting at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court, said: “Officers were called to Upper Brook Street following a dispute between a group of people.

“Miss Riches was abusive to the officers and was told that if she carried on she would be arrested.

“She then punched and head-butted a special constable leaving red marks on his forehead.”

Dino Barricella, mitigating, said: “Miss Riches saw her son, Mark Hart, being assaulted.

“The police were called but when they got there the offenders had fled the scene.

“This was why she became abusive, used colourful language and behaved in a way she regrets.

“Miss Wooby wanted to go and help her mother and ended up punching another special constable.

“This was a hen night. They were out to have a good time and weren't looking for trouble.

“But after Miss Riches saw her son being assaulted she acted in the spur of the moment.”

Riches was fined £165 and ordered to pay £75 compensation and £40 costs.

Wooby was fined £100 and ordered to pay £50 compensation and £40 costs.

  • If you hit a poilice officer it should be automatic jail, no exeptions, drunk or not drunk, you know exactly what you are doing if you lift you're hand up to strike someone. I only hope they restrained her in the usual way, i.e. Slam her to the ground, she deserves nothing less.
