AN injured worker from the wind farms off Clacton has been taken to hospital after falling through a hatch on a tug boat.

The 24-year-old German man was hurt while working aboard the vessel Arion which transports equipment out to the wind farms.

A spokesman for Thames Coastguard said the man fell down a hatch and landed on a metal step at the bottom, injuring his legs and pelvis.

The accident happened at 3.30pm yesterday but the casualty said he was happy to stay on board until the tug docked.

Thames Coastguard were alerted at just after midnight today that the boat was coming into Harwich Navyyard Wharf with the injured man.

Firefighters were called to the scene to help take the man off the Arion and he was then transferred to an ambulance and taken to Colchester General Hospital.

Full details of his condition were not known.
