there appears to be different understandings from the locals as to the classification of the establishment.
Sorry aden, but we are not confused, Hollesley Bay colony is both! Think along the lines of a shop, just because they sell mens and womens stuff from two different sides of the shop doesn't make them two different shops. I think maybe you have to live around here to fully understand the situation at the Colony.

I am one of the locals. Im a resident who lives in Hollesley Bay. I have to admit that i never hear when a prisioner has escaped. Its rarely in the papers or local news, and there doesnt appear to be an 'alert system' in place.
I often walk my dogs through the prison, and i dont feel in any way threatened. Its a beautiful area. The only time i got a little scared was when one prisoner approached me to stroke my dog. He said he hadnt "seen a dog in years" and i wondered what he was in for. But the prisoners are hugely polite and always wave and say hello.

Whilst i agree that ,s a very nice story indeed about escaped prisoners being polite,The point is that is still no excuse for the amount of escapees from this establishment.Whose to say one day someone will get hurt when confronted by a prisoner. There is a reason most of these are in prison on violent crime related sentences...they hurt people!! When i worked at Poplar pk equestrian centre(in the villge)the prisoners used to have work placement with us once a week and the amount of stuff they used to pinch was unbelievable,My point is a percentage cannot be trusted so the escappee problem needs to be dealt with asap!.I think most of the time the guards did,nt even check them when it was time to return!
as stated before i am a former inmate of hollesley bay and even i completely agree with Bonsai.
just to let you know, they pinch things because it is worth alot more inside prison than it is outside prison!.
