Re: The Running Buck in Ipswich
Hi , just thought I'd look up the Running Buck , I used to go there in '81. I was stationed in Bentwaters. I had way too much fun there too ! When I was in Tech training in Illinois and found out where I was going people told me about the Running Buck..but they said don't go there..especially by yourself. So naturally that was the first place I went , even before orientation. Made some nice friends there. It was pretty wild..nothing like what one poster said about disco and all..I would'nt have gone if it was like that. I beleive the bartenders name( at least the one who was there on weekends ) at that time was Adrienne. When I didnt stay at the barracks.. we stayed in a beautiful very old farm house in Hintlesham, that some friends of mine from the base rented. Any body know Paddy O'Flynn ? Lived off of Woodbridge rd. Those were the days ! What fun. Sad to hear how much things have changed.

Re: The Running Buck in Ipswich

Hi Vicki

I used to go to the Buck at that time. I know Paddy ( David) O'Flynn very well and still keep in touch on and off.

He married Gill in the late 80's and now has one daughter Natasha, who is around 18.

They live off Branford road and have done for many years, Their local pub is now The Freemasons arms on Victoria street but I don't think that they are now going out as often as we used to.

I have lived in Canada for 14 years and have not been home in a few years.

The Running Buck was closed before I left England (Taken back by the local Baptisted church who always owned the building).

The Disco place was out the back and not part of the Buck but called Cindrellas and was a night club.

Hey Paul,

I'm sure that I'm the Big John you you remember. Beaky and me were the best of mates for a long time. Woden Forge was the name of the band that he was in the late 70's, but for the most part the pub we used at that time was the Royal Willam on Handford road.

I was actually in the navy at the time and worked in the North sea on rig supply/ diving ships.

We had some crazy times in the Running Buck and I will always think of that time as fun.

Sorry but I don't remember you.

My name is Heather Molinari (nee Harvey). I used to go to the Running Buck during 1967-1968. I remember the cottage bar and the cellar bar very well. What good times we had, the American guys would love to have contests drinking the yard of ale, there was also Annie's parlor and the food in the grill was the best. What a shame it is gone.

Snail [sn] Re: The Running Buck in Ipswich
I also went to the running buck oh! those were the days as they say.  My hubbie of 28years was a parachute rigger at Bentwaters 75-79. I am looking for a friend her name is Pauline Calver, she worked with me at John players;and also worked part time at the Chow hall at Bentwaters.  Every time I see a  Mini Cooper on the roads here in Houston Texas, I remember the old days, as she had a car, and we would ride together to the base sometimes.  I miss Ipswich, but I am fortunate to work for an English Company, and I work with a lot of Brits.  See you in December Ipswich!!!

I grew up in Ipswich and I live on whitton. I met and married my husband of 33years in Ipswich. He was stationed at Bentwaters from 1972 to 1976. We used to go to the Running buck for dinner and a drink. We were stationed at Lakenheath from 1983-1987 and Ipswich had changed so much last time we were there and it just didn't seem the same, I am sure that it is much differant now I am hopping to go to england in the near further as all my family still lives there. We now live in Texas and I really would like for our granddaughters to see where I grew up and to see my brothers and sisters as they ahve never met any of my family. My husband I had some really good time when we lived in ipswich at the running buck and the top floor club.
