Crying [:'(] Re: Ipswich coffee bars,mid-late 50's,60's
I can remember going from Norwich Road into town, you passed Quix Snax cafe, the Two Ages coffee Bar, then just before Orford St the cafe called Stans Snax,  then where the Civic Drive Rounabout is now, just past Berners Street there was Yvones Milk Bar, I was 15 at the time and was having a crafty Ciggy and a bottle of Coke in the Milk Bar, at 8.00 at night, a teacher came past and saw me, next day at school I got 6 Strokes of the cane on my backside for this offence, good days they were, havn't things chaged though Crying [:'(]  No Photo's though "sorry"

Re: Ipswich coffee bars,mid-late 50's,60's
And I remember us hippies hanging about on a Saturday morning in the Burger Bar by the Eastern Counties Bus Depot at the turn of the 70's - just a short walk from the "ex-jukebox" Record Shop opposite the Blue Coat Boy where one could get all the recently released 45's secondhand for around 25-30p each! A friend and myself (both committed Hendrix freaks) were the first people in Suffolk to hear the then new Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies LP in it's entirety owing to happening to stroll in one Saturday morning and be told, by one of the two ladies who ran the shop, of its imminent delivery that day...we came back an hour later and they played the album through for us! Try finding that kind of service in an Ipswich shop today with the possible exception of Browns whilst it still exists!

Wink [;)] Re: Ipswich coffee bars,mid-late 50's,60's

Great to see all these memories from all those great places flooding back on here, but, can anyone remember that other great cafe in the early 60's, more on the outskirts of Ipswich....The Classic Cafe....on Woodbridge Road East, used to a great extent as a meeting point and then particularly at weekends all go off to all sorts of places in the country where there was a band on,Woodbridge,Framlingham etc etc., and then finish up back at 'The Classic'....poor old Doris and Joy and Christine who worked there probably despaired when all the boys and girls arrived with minutes to go to closing time wanting something to eat,but they were lovely people and would always russell something up and work past closing time, some of the 'lads' i remember are Ray,Noel, kevin, the Berry Brothers,Maurice,Lenny,'Big' Bill the then taxi driver,Colin,Clippie and Dougie to name but a few, girls i remember are Teresa,Yvonne,Sally,Jane,Rita,Maxine, are any of you out there?....oh,what memories from the 'olden days'..really great, however can it be over 40 years ago??...are we in a time warp ???

Regards   Reggie.
